In Part Two of my eighth interview with sociologist Roger Yates, we discuss the need to reaffirm the ethical heart of veganism, contesting the idea that veganism is only a diet. Roger also explains how vegans could collectively purchase land for the animal rights movement to use for various purposes. As well, we share our views on an autobiographical essay by the conscientious objector Rubin Abramowitz, who co-founded the first US-based vegan group with Catherine Nimmo in 1948. At the end of the episode, we hear a brief clip of Professor Tom Regan speaking about the philosophy of animal rights.
