Cats Christmas: You gave me The Force

Your hosts the Joshes may just be taking one last look at their friends, because they're finally mad about Star Wars online, or at least on air. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) yields some hyperbolic words, as Josh M.'s irateness this week knows no bounds when it comes to what he sees as a corporate and artless reactionary movie. Josh B. defends some of its intentions, and the pair get into J.J. Abrams' strengths and weaknesses, Carrie Fisher camera tricks, Rey staring silently, Babu Frik, the two big promoted returning classic characters, fanservice, and of course The Last Jedi (2017). It's vague and not too spoilery. The hosts also find that we are what Cats (2019) grow beyond, physically speaking, and discuss the truly burdensome mastery of nightmarish visuals in Tom Hooper's adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/T.S. Eliot musical. Josh B. delights in many of the offputting choices Rebel Wilson, Taylor Swift, and co. are made to do, but they wonder if it should have been stranger. Check out Ip Man 4: The Finale (2019) and Little Women (2019) in town later this week! And Josh M.'s very special Christmas movie recommendation shouted out this week is The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944), a riotous screwball comedy directed by Preston Sturges that's also the best hangover movie. Next time: Best of the Decade!
