I'm Talking Here!
Monday August 5th, 2019 with Josh Murray and Joshua Robert Bateman
Peterloo and Mike Leigh

Josh B. was underwhelmed by Hobbs & Shaw (2019) despite some decent action, so your hosts talk mostly about Mike Leigh's latest film Peterloo (2018). They discuss the phenomenal massacre scene, whether the movie is boring, and of course the Bible. This leads into discussion of the entire Mike Leigh oeuvre. Josh B.'s favourite is the optimistic charms of Happy-Go-Lucky (2008), while Josh M. backs Secrets & Lies (1996) for its weepy barrage of sobbing family climaxes. They also shout out Timothy Spall's muttering in Topsy-Turvy (1999), David Thewlis' scary-funny horribleness in Naked (1993), and another Leigh process movie Vera Drake (2004). Next week: Richard Linklater's film Where'd You Go, Bernadette? (2019)
