In this episode of White Rabbit, we spoke to Kevin Bourne of Ottawa's own Shifter Magazine. It's a publication that highlights hip hop culture in the capital and celebrates the achievements of Black Canadians. It's been an extremely difficult few weeks, with nonstop coverage of the recent death of George Floyd and many other Black citizens at the hands of law enforcement, along with recent protests against anti-Black racism around the world. We dove deep down the rabbit hole this week for a more challenging discussion on how we can do better to eliminate racism from our own lives. Kevin spoke to us about his life as a Black man in Ottawa, the fear that is often directed towards him, and how he navigates it all. We also touched on how Ottawa can do better as a city to embrace its Black influences and the trailblazers and creators at the helm of advancing this culture.
