Good afternoon, you are listening to the Bear Necessities I hope everyone had a great halloween, and are adjusting to the time change. On today’s show we will be playing some new releases from Dead Pioneers, IllScarlett, The Lemonheads, Bad Cop Bad Cop, Bar Italia and much much more, but we will start with a new release from Fucked Up’s forthcoming album… This time of year visits upon us another annual tradition, that is the CKCU funding Drive. Funding public campus radio stations is vital because they amplify local voices, support emerging artists, and foster media literacy and community engagement—especially among youth and marginalized groups. Campus radio stations play a unique and irreplaceable role in the media landscape. Unlike commercial broadcasters, I’m not knocking those stations, but they need to make money by selling advertising space every few songs. CKCU and public radio in general, they prioritize local content, diversity of opinion, and cultural representation. These stations often serve as training grounds for students and volunteers, offering hands-on experience in journalism, production, and broadcasting. This builds critical media skills and encourages civic participation.
