Dedicated to Mr. Lynch

Today's broadcast is dedicated to American filmmaker, visual artist, musician, actor and downright weirdo, David Lynch. Lynch passed away on January 15th, 2025, shortly before what would have been his 79th birthday. On this special edition of First Crush, we'll hear songs from Lynch's filmography, music from the "Lynchian universe", as well as his original music, as well as current artists that one could imagine performing at The Roadhouse in Twin Peaks. Known for his films Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Muholland Drive, as well as the original adaptation of the novel Dune, alongside his television show Twin Peaks, David Lynch had an expansive career of over 50 years. His work was dreamlike, absurd, and poignantly explored the tensions between the sacred and profane in mundane, North American life. Lynch was also notably an advocate for world peace and a practitioner of transcendental meditation. Lynch reportedly passed away in meditation in his daughter's home, after having to evacuate his neighbourhood in Los Angeles due to the ongoing wildfires. The cinematic legacy of David Lynch will be celebrated with special screenings at Ottawa's independent theatres, The Bytowne and The Mayfair Theatre. Good on you Zoe for doing this. We had weekly "Twin Peaks" Parties at our home with friends every week while the series was running on TV for the first time. We were just so totally hooked from the first notes of the theme music on the very first episode. None of us ever, not once, considered doing anything else on Twin Peaks TV Nite !! Can't thank you and your Dad enough for both doing tributes today. There will never be another like David Lynch !! Farewell you beautiful shooting star up there in the universe now.

Speaking of deep losses..............I miss Roy Orbison every hot summer night........heck even on cold days. He made Blue Velvet haunting with "In Dreams".

Awesome stuff, I didn't know / hadn't heard at least half of that. Good to work in the short clips, it's like those interludes between songs on an album. (PS if it was you, also good work on the heavy playlist for gaza)
