On this day in 1973, Jamaican-born DJ Kool Herc spun break-beats at his sister's birthday party at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, New York City. This is said to be the birth place of hip-hop, making Herc one of the founding fathers of the genre.
To celebrate hip-hop's 50th, tune in for an hour of music from hip-hop artists from across so-called Canada; many local to our own music community.
Of course, don't forget that Ottawa's own hip-hop festival, House of PainT, kicks off today!
