National Indigenous History Month Is Every Month

Hello First Crush listeners! It's the first show of July! To celebrate National Indigenous History Month (which we are just two days shy of finishing), today's playlist is comprised entirely of Indigenous artists from across Turtle Island, mostly from what is now known as Canada. Let today's (technically) belated special serve as a reminder that National Indigenous History Month is every month. While this month is spotlighted once a year (alongside Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the summer solstice), it is important to support First Nations, Inuit and Métis people 24/7 in the fight for sovereignty and solidarity, while also honouring the history, heritage and diversity of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island. Please check out all of the artists featured on today's program and consult this list of resources below for ways to take action, as well as organizations to support in our community. Take care and have a wonderful weekend! Resources: The On Canada Project is a grassroots, youth-led and volunteer-based movement aiming to mobilize millennials and Gen-Z to create equitable, evidence-informed change.
