go DIck, go!! a 5km hike is reasonable....I have been watching a lot of Quebec and Ontario back country portaging and camping vids on youtube.... a 5km hike seems simple compared to the slogs those folks do!

True, your mind (and its pre-set, looking-outside, ooh-it's-cold assumptions) is the main thing to overcome. A bit of pre-conditioning help: Your indoor mind lies: it's not *that* cold. 2) Dress really well. 3) Walk briskly! 4) You find out that, yes, it's really not that cold. 5) You feel more vital once back home, and also mentally better (merit, merit!)
