Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride
Steel Pole Bathtub - The Miracle Of Sound In Motion - 1993 - Boner Records
Swampland
Birthday Party - Mutiny EP - 1983 - Mute
The (at times) terrifying Birthday Party let drugs, paranoia and trauma grind them through this four song EP. In my personal top 5 scariest records.
Devil's Rodeo
Diamanda Galas & John Paul Jones - The Sporting Life - 1994 - Mute
As accessible as Diamanda Galas gets, this release sees former Led Zepplin bassist take care of the low end for a predictably intense yet enjoyably creepy listen.
If And Or When
Submission Hold - Sackcloth and Ashes - The Ostrich Dies On Monday - 199? - Ebullition
Canadian punks keeping things agitated and reactionary along with some chamber music and klezmer influences. No cheap novelty included.
Who The Fuck?!
PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her - 2004 - Island
Silver Hawaiian
Helmet - Betty - 1994 - Amphetamine Reptile
Summertime
Ramsey Lewis - The Groover - 1972 - Cadet
Although released in '72 with an outrageously horrible photo of Ramsey on the cover, the LP sees the classic Ramsey Lewis Trio lineup (with Young and Holt) rip through some live cuts from the mid 60s. From the same time period as The 'In' Crowd and even the same live sessions as Hang On Sloopy.
The Minstral
Artistic Heritage Ensemble - Split EP with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - 200?
Herb's Herbs
Herb Bernstein - Herb Bernstein's New Crusade - 196? - Metromedia
Truly wacked-out LP from former basketball pro turned MGM(?) musical arranger/composer/producer. Freaky instrumentation - in part - includes three flamenco guitarists, four drummers (with at least two on full kits), flutes, and tuba & bass trombone as the lead instruments! Things do not stop there but the rest is too much of headscratcher to explain.
The Truth
Handsome Boy Modeling School - So... How's Your Girl? - 1998 - Tommy Boy
