Show #30: CKCU Funding "Drift" - Best in Indie Folk, Alt Country and Indie Rock

We celebrate this very first funding drive show with select alternative music across a wide variety of genres to illustrate how CKCU FM provides music that you won't hear anywhere else on the airwaves. We're very proud of the music we play and the programming we provide to the community, so why don't you donate at < https://secure.ckcufm.com/pledge/ > or (613) 520-2528?

Fact Checkin' Cuz
Steve Earle, Wintersleep, and July Talk get plenty of commercial radio airplay (a quick look at the commercial alt rock station in town says they've played Wintersleep at least 15 times and July Talk 18 times since Funding Drive began) and those PJ Harvey and Flaming Lips tracks have been known to get the occasional spin, too. Your thesis needs better supporting arguments.

Thanks for the input, Cuz. The fact of the matter is that Sunrise Drift has never shied away from alternative acts that have garnered "commercial" success - refusing to buy into the self-defeating ethos that "it's only cool if no one has ever heard it before".

The realty, of course, is that all of these acts on the playlist have had some level of commercial success - compared to others such as Controlled Bleeding, Muslimgauze, Pigface or Silverfish (which, in and of themselves were quite successful within their own genres of noise / Industrial).

My point - which perhaps could have been clarified better - is that as a radio station CKCU programming allows listeners access to music and programming which simply isn't heard anywhere else. We have the only Farsi radio program (Namaashoum) in the entire city. We have shows dedicated exclusively to heavy content (Noisy Yelly Music). We always showcase local talent. We have one show dedicated to live performances week after week - straight off the studio floor and onto the airwaves (Ottawa Live Music). You just won't hear this music anywhere else. :)
