Rare Beyonce B-Sides

Made you look! We will accomplish a few things this week. We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We will play some Italian minimalist/electronic music. We will play some Butterflies and Zebras. And we will show case the brand new shiny Motorpsycho album. We don't do these things because we have to. We do these things because we want to.

After opening with the title track of the most recent Crippled Black Phoenix CDEP, we stick with the (mostly) songs with words and the newest album by Motorpsycho, "Here Be Monsters". This band has almost as many phases as albums while still maintaining a degree of consistency and continuity... the newest album seems to have more sun-drenched psychedelic pop moments, but maybe it's all in my head.

Local heroes Butterflies and Zebras (Norm Howard, Steve Northover, Ken Walker) released this back in 2009... "all sounds on this recording are live and organic"

A couple of Italian artists now. Roberto Cacciapaglia was the keyboardist for some of Franco Battiato's early experimental work before embarking on his own solo career. "Sei Note in Logica" for four voices, orchestra & computer, was his second solo album. The reissue includes both the original version and an acoustic-only version. It reminds me at times of Steve Reich's "Tehillim".

Piero Milesi was an Italian electronic/ambient/film score/etc. musician who released several albums on the Cuneiform label. I've always liked his work.

[due to some technical problems I could not play the Paraphonique track announced on air]

Nik Turner's Space Ritual is the current project of Nik Turner (duh), formerly of Hawkwind. He also played with B.C.'s Melodic Energy Commission back in the day. Space Fusion Odyssey is the 2015 release on Purple Pyramid.

Fuchsia is an excellent folk-psych one-off from the early 1970s... reminds me a bit of groups like Love or maybe Nick Drake with an almost orchestral wistful folk but they had a few proggy moves too. Was going to play this on a show soon so might as well do it now.

Bam.
This one makes up for last week's Paraphonique debacle.
