Miscellany, featuring Invading Germans

We start with a track from Harmonia, featuring Moebius and Roedelius from Cluster and Michael Rother from Neu!

A further celebration of the new The New Pornographers album (if they didn't want that to spell out awkwardly, they would have named the band differently).

I spent Labour Day weekend in North Carolina at the ProgDay music festival, an event I used to help organize and hadn't attended in eleven years. It was great to see a lot of people after far too long. Two of my favorite acts from the weekend fit into this week's show quite well.
Music is painting in the air
Sensations' Fix - Fragments of Light - Polydor
Knock Knock Hornet's Nest
Necromonkey - Necroplex - Exergy
German set #1, featuring the big three... *a* big three? Three classic German bands, anyway.
Future Days
Can - Future Days - Spoon
Why Don't You Eat Carrots?
Faust - Faust - Universal
Sleepwalker's Timeless Bridge
Amon Düül II - Wolf City - Revisited
Last show I featured a battle between Musk Ox and Muskox. Nobody cared. But I still care enough to bring you more music from these fine groups. Since Musk Ox got to go first last time, this week it's the avant-instrumental group from Toronto who starts. Incidentally, the Musk-Ox-with-a-space release is new, and they are local, and pretty good, so maybe check that album out on Bandcamp...
Fever Dream I
Muskox - Invocation/Transformations - private Canadian
Above the Clouds
Musk Ox - Woodfall - private Canadian New
John Oswald is probably best known for his plunderphonics work, insofar as a Canadian modern composer can be known in this day and age. One of his most interesting projects was Grayfolded, which is a series of excerpts of Grateful Dead live Dark Star performances, manipulated and transformed into two CD-long suites. Other artists have done this with their own work (King Crimson THRaKaTTaK, and some Frank Zappa pieces) but it's novel to have an outsider tackle the work of an iconic band (who he wasn't overly familiar with) and produce something new out of it.

Anyway, here's some music from that.
Clouds Cast

Through
John Oswald - Grayfolded - Plunderphonics Canadian
Fault Forces
John Oswald - Grayfolded - Plunderphonics Canadian
German set #2, the exact contours of which shall be derived from and enforced by the time constraints impressed upon the host by the amount of talking he inflicted on the listeners in previous segments of the show. Also offers an element of surprise to those who checked out the setlist ahead of time. Thanks for listening!
