Thinkin' about Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, Cecil Taylor. The themes sre in the performance themselves, in the moment. Ayler was especially important in that regard. Playing off of different scales and blending the noise if the saxophone with the harshness of dischordant sound.

I really wanted to include Free Jazz in this doc on Harsh Noise, but I knew I didn't have enough time to branch out too much. I highly recommend Paul Hegarty's book Noise/Music for the discussion of artists like Ayler, Coleman, later Coltrane, etc. in relation to what we now know as Noise or Drone

I will check it out. You know Free Jazz was making inroads into the pop culture mentality until around 1963 - then The Beatles hit the airwaves... and Ayler was found dead 5 years later. Anyway - thanks for the reference..! Great show!
