Welcome To My World
Tuesday August 27th, 2019 with Kim Kilpatrick, Shelley Ann Morris and Daniel Bourret
Special Guest, Chris Lyne (all the way from the UK) visiting Ottawa talks about Shared Lives

This week, Chris Lyne (CKCU host from 1981-86) joins Kim, Shelley and Daniel to talk about Shared Lives, an organization that facilitates living arrangements with those who have disabilities and carers. We will also chat about how Chris became involved with CKCU and, if time allows, include some music, too.

Hi Colleen, thanks for your message, I'm very pleased to hear you found the Shared Lives information interesting. Shared Lives is almost always a positive experience for the people involved. I mentioned on air that Shared Lives arrangements can last many years, but I didn't get to mention that in my experience the workers who support and monitor Shared Lives often remain in that role for many years too: it's sometimes quite challenging, never ever dull and very rewarding. I only discovered that there's a well established Shared Lives equivalent ("Shared Living") in BC fairly recently. For more information: Communitylivingbc.ca Regards, Chris
