Hi ladies, Great topic for today's show. I've had to advocate for myself throughout my life from high school to university to my working life. I used to get frustrated in my early years but as I matured, I looked at these opportunities to teach those around me about my disability.

Hi Kim, Shelley and Penny. I thought Penny's advocacy tips were very wise -- her goal when communicating being to maintain relationships, and to achieve progress that way. Kim's Powerpoint story was especially educational and meaningful to me too. Even as a sighted person, how often have I felt that we overuse 'screen presentations' these days -- when it would often be refreshing and much more effective to communicate simply with the spoken word -- encouraging more dialogue so that the audience is not just passively 'entertained'. Keep up the great discussions on Welcome to My World !

Hi all, Thank you so much for your comments and stories. Advocacy isn't always easy but the results (as we have seen) has a positive influence for many.
