I Doug That
Thursday November 13th, 2025 with Doug Bird
It's been a crazy couple weeks what with things breaking down and the funding drive and breaking a guitar string so the show today is just a relaxing collection of tunes with a 21 minute epic. Gives me time to drink my coffee.

Alexis
The James Gang - Bang
Thick As A Brick
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
Snortin' Whiskey Drinkin' Cocaine

Benoit: you are very welcome. I was listening to it the other day at home and decided why not play a 21 minute song on a 58 minute show?

Doug, re this Tull: Yeah. Who else plays a whole record side any more? Ok, maybe CHUO. But maybe not...

First time I saw Tull was just before Brick came out. they opened the show with the entire album. Amazing

Benoit: That's why CKCU is so important to music!

Doug, your last statement: damn right. You're helping "cultivate"? -- no, inform younger peeps. Like Satellite. Or is it Birdhouse? (yuk yuk yuk)

My best "they played the whole album" was surely The Arcade Fire doing Funeral at the Black Sheep, *that* year.

Wish we could have seen Jethro Tull back then! We went to see Martin Barre at Shenkman a few years ago for the Aqualung 50th Anniversary Tour... so good. Both Satellite AND Birdhouse lol.

Doug, I've been encouraging another CKCU show to give a listen to The Hip's / Gord's *World Container*. Many deep songs in there, as well as Family Band, a fave. And The Kids Don't Get It. But even more, that last cut...

With apologies to all the Hip fans, for me the best thing about that band is the guitar playing.

Lisa P. Can't argue with that.

Lisa: well, they *did* have what you could call two lead guitars, or at least two guitarists that could keep complementary riffs. Made the band more interesting than some others, in between Gord's voicings.
