I had originally intended to have a predominantly-jazz-and-prog-oriented show... but, at the 11th hour, it came to my attention that there was a new album from local heroes Not Really... so we start out with a feature on them... THEN we move on to the jazz... then the fusion... then we finish with a gargatuan prog feature on some early Eloy!
Trying to get some noise out of the Computer proves to be a trial. Here, listen to the Loafin' Hyenas while I fix things... |
Forbidden See Loafin' Hyenas - 7" SFTRI 1989 |
After a bit of a shaky start (thanks to a new - and apparently unreliable - CD player... vinyl records remain the standard for reliability!), we begin this edition of the Nightwatch with the new album from local band Not Really, called 'On The Spectrum'. They've been around for almost 10 years, and we're hoping for 10 more! |
Worried About You Not Really - On The Spectrum |
Iron Heart Not Really - On The Spectrum |
The Same Thing Not Really - On The Spectrum |
Not About Regret Not Really - On The Spectrum |
Wrong All The Time Not Really - On The Spectrum |
You Be The Judge Not Really - On The Spectrum |
Too Much Time To Think Not Really - On The Spectrum |
Love Goes Out Not Really - On The Spectrum |
In The Evening Not Really - On The Spectrum |
Time for a 'transition set', whereby you turn your attention from 'the rawk' to some jazz action. Technically the Loafin' Hyenas should have been at the start of this set... |
Starchaser Angels Of Light - We Are Him |
The Super-Natural John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - A Hard Road |
Restless Stagg - S/T |
I'll Be Seeing You Mike Cassells, Garrett Warner, Jonathan Stewart - This Place, In Time |
... and here we are in the jazz-side. Finished up there with an online-only track released in late 2018 - if you like it, here's the link: https://mikecassells.bandcamp.com/album/this-place-in-time. Continuing on with a late-70's ECM release from Ralph Towner... |
Distant Hills Ralph Towner Solstice - Sound and Shadows - 1977 |
Arion Ralph Towner Solstice - Sound and Shadows |
From the predominantly acoustic and challenging Towner, into fusion-land, starting with a funky approach, taken by a jazz classic, Cannonball Adderley, from a release that hails from the mid-70's, towards the end of his life. |
Domination Cannonball Adderley - Phenix - 1975 |
Hexensabat Passport - Passport - Doldinger - 1971 |
Sea of Tranquility Billy Cobham - Total Eclipse - 1974 |
Pulling out of the jazz via jazz-rock/fusion... and into the Prog, with a smattering of early material from German band Eloy's 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 1978 Live LPs. I went on a bit of an Eloy bender today, and figured you should as well. Formed in '69, they are still rolling today! |
Land of No Body Eloy - Inside - 1973 |
The Light Fron Deep Darkness Eloy - Floating - 1974 |
Plastic Girl Eloy - Floating - 1974 |
Love Over Six Centuries Eloy - The Power and the Passion - 1975 |
Mutiny Eloy - The Power and the Passion - 1975 |
Atlantis' Agony at June 5th - 8498, 13 P.M. Gregorian Earthtime Eloy - Live - 1978 |
