Purchases from the 17th Community Record Show, including Embryo's 'We Keep On'!
Filling this edition of the Nightwatch with Purchases from the 17th Community Record Show, including a full album drop of the entire Embryo LP 'We Keep On'!
Starting out with a few tracks from the re-acquired copy of Bevis Frond's 1990 release Ány Gas Faster', and then going back to the early-70's for a couple of tracks from Roger Miller (who was to form Mission of Burma a decade later) and Co in a band calledSproton Layer. The album of recordings were only released in the early-90's. One wonders what would've come of it if they'd've had wider appeal - they definitely sounded years ahead of their time! |

Now a great find - Les 4 Guitaristes... are a great 4-guitar band from Quebec (including guitarist Rene Lussier and Drummer Chris Cutler!!) - they didn't release much, tho'; this is a live effort from '89. |

Continuing on in a less-avant-garde way with the band formed by Carlos Santana's brother, the band Malo. More Latin and less acid than Santana, it's still some energetic stuff. After that... I couldn't resist Santana's 1st LP. |
Moving Away Malo - Evolution |
Shades of Time Santana - S/T (1st LP) |
Savor Santana - S/T (1st LP) |
Now playing some surprising picks - a few Blues LPs. I've never really had a serious hankering for blues product... but these LPs are well worth the while. The Blues Project is good, definitely influenced by the nascent psychedelic scene. The Albert King LP is one I've wanted for a long time - great live performance. And the John Mayall - surprisingly non-trad blues! |
You Can't Catch Me The Blues Project - Projections |
Wake Me, Shake Me The Blues Project - Projections |
Blues At Sunrise Albert King - Live Wire Blues Power |
So Hard to Share John Mayall - Turning Point |
Out of the Blues now and back to the more reg'lar Nightwatch stomping grounds - some great early-70's Swedish jazz/hard-rock material from Tasavallen Presidentti. The later LPs were great, but more fusion-y -
the earlier LPs a harder edge, definitely. After that, a track from some very early Offenbach! |

After the Early-70's hit, we get back to the 2000's. Managed to find A Chis Forsyth LP, simply entitled 'Solar Motel' released in 2013 - perhaps the precursor LP to the albums with the Solar Motel Band? Either way, great guitar-driven jam/psych. After that, the entirely-improvised Third-ear band. 'Experiences' is a comp, the track 'Ghetto Raga' being from their 1st LP 'Alchemy' (1969) |
Solar Motel (Pt II) Chris Forsyth - Solar Motel |
Ghetto Raga Third Ear Band - Experiences |
Into a quick set of non-record-show tracks, just to bulk-up the Canadian Content! Some little-known Q-prog, then a bit better-known Q-fusion... and finishing up with some ferocious neo-psych from Sask.'s Shooting Guns! |
Present du Futur Franck Derviex - Dimension M ![]() |
Toujours Trop Tard Maneige - Composite ![]() |
