Dream Syndicate!! Guru Guru!!

Starting with the rawk-oriented, new Dream Syndicate... and finishing with Kraut Classic, GuruGuru's 'UFO'. Much ground gets covered in between!!
I am pleased and proud to present 5 songs from the Dream Syndicate's new LP, their first since 1988's 'Ghost Stories'! Noisier, updated sound... but top-quality!!

Time to go on to a set of Canadian heavy Psych, finishing with 2 tracks from Saskatoon's 'Shooting Guns'! They will be in town providing the soundtrack to the silent film 'Nosferatu' at the Mayfair in the coming month!! Also, TBWNIAS can be found playing later in the month at Cafe Pressed! Keep your eyes peeled for details!

Time to hit a few tunes from the new LP from Earthling Society, a new (relatively - they formed in 2004...) British band that also have connections with the band Vert:X, heard here on the Nightwatch some months back.

Another record to be heralded in the jam/psychedelia canon is the arrival of the new Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band's new LP 'Dreaming in the Non-Dream'. I would play more from the LP... but time is short! More in future Nightwatches, promise! Tacked onto the end is a new online-only track (from a FREE EP!!: https://pachydermmusic.bandcamp.com/album/maximum-capacity-single) from Montreal's Pachyderm, taking a trip into more funky territory from the heaviness!

We finally drop back 45 years or so (as is our habit here on the Nightwatch) to catch up with a few seldom-heard classics, starting with a few tracks from Peter Kaukonen's Black Kangaroo - more known for being a songwriter and backup musician, this LP is prime psychedelic Bay-area blues-rock. (Wikipedia sez: "San Francisco bay area guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter. He is the younger brother of Jorma Kaukonen from Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna. Peter Kaukonen has played, toured, and recorded with Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna, Johnny Winter, Link Wray, Terry Allen, Ruthann Friedman (author of "Windy"), as well as his own band, Black Kangaroo.") As far as I know, Black Kangaroo only has the one LP out, in 1972. The last cut is a track from the Blues Project after Al Kooper left. Much maligned because it wasn't a 'blues' LP per se... but it IS a varied foray into a lot of different styles, including this foray into the nascent jazz/rock (maybe even prog(!)) scene. With the perspective of years, it's a worthy LP.

We finish out the Nightwatch with a classic in the Kraut-rock genre, Gurur Guru's 1970 debut opus, 'UFO'. A brief review for elsewhere: "INSANE psychedelic jamming of the highest order! These guys manage to be incredibly captivating while rocking the ever-living f*ck out on their instruments, aided by tape manipulation and wild effects. There's not a whole lot of structure to their jams, but with music this good and crazed, who cares? The title track could even pass for early industrial music! Highly recommended to all fans of psych, noise rock, and krautrock alike!"
