RIP Show: Restless Virgins! Don Van Vliet (Long Live the Captain! Sure 'Nuff Yes We Do!)
Sadly, this Nightwatch is fuelled by death - the untimely passing of Steve Gelling, onetime guitarist for Ottawa's own Restless Virgins, and the mighty Captain Beefheart, Don Van Vliet himself. The issues I have with this little feature are a) it's too short, considering the magnitude of his contribution to music and popular culture, and b)I didn't bring the 'Clear Spot' LP, under the (mistaken) assumption that it would be here at the station. Oops. Afterwards, a slow descent into the jam-style and finishing with Magma (a classic, even if I've played it before). Here's hoping the Nightwatches in 2011 are not a panopoly of 'Who's Died This Week' shows!
