Sunday Summer Swing with the Duke

Just days before the concert at Newport that would re-vitalize his career, Duke Ellington lead his band in a concert at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. This was the second to last stop on the band's tour before playing at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1956.

Absolutely fabulous, Paul. Thank you for another classic Ellington Live show !!!!!! It brought out all my hummingbirds......who knew they loved Ellington too !! They were at all my feeders and doing aerial demonstrations across the yard !

I'm so glad you, and your humming birds!, enjoyed the concert Neil! There is a lot of focus on the big famous concerts (Newport 1956, for instance), but there are real gems in these smaller/less known recordings, that it is a real pleasure to share with all the lovely listeners.

You made my evening, Paul..........and apparently, the hummingbirds too. My Sunday is always made complete by you, and alternately, Ron and Jim ! I can never thank you guys enough for your devotion to the music of jazz and your enthusiasm ! And for all the background and stories. It's like when your ;parents read you bedtime stories when you were very young. You 3 curators bring the music to life !!.
