Swing Is In The Air
Sunday September 15th, 2024 with Paul Campbell
New New York and more Django

The top of today's show is a beginner dancer friendly opening set recently played at the Frim Fram Jam, New York's weekly Thursday night social dance. This being a return from a short hiatus for the summer, the opening set featured currently recording New York artists (or at least artists currently residing in New York). The back half of the show we continue to listen to classic Django Reinhardt sessions from a collection of 1935-1946 sessions. === Danny Jonokuchi is a multi-talented jazz artist based in New York City and Los Angeles. As a jazz trumpeter, vocalist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator, few artists are as diversely involved in their craft. He has been recognized for his performance on two GRAMMY Award-Winning projects, his signature “world-class arrangements” (Broadway World), and albums he has performed on and produced. Danny Jonokuchi & The Revisionists is a swing band dedicated to performing for the international Lindy Hop community and have “a classic swing sound you wouldn’t think possible” (Syncopated Times). === THE HOT TODDIES are a fun loving hot jazz & swing band in NYC with an eclectic mix of styles for dancing, lindy hop & good times! The band is led by Patrick Soluri, and features vocalists Hannah Gill & Queen Esther, plus Justin Poindexter, and many of NYC's top jazz musicians! === Eyal Vilner is one of the leading new voices in the New York and global swing scene. Born in Tel Aviv, saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist, composer and bandleader Eyal moved to New York in 2007 and started his big band the following year. Eyal's interest in the exchange between sound and movement within the jazz idiom inspired his musical journey and yielded collaborations with acclaimed dancers and choreographers.
