The United Service Organizations has been a soldiers "Home Away From Home" for American deployed forces since 1941. In addition to the USO clubs that provided a quiet place to write a letter home, or a free coffee, USO produced Show Tours featuring some of the biggest names in show business of the day. Three of the names on the Show Tour list included Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Count Basie.
Later in the show we will be featuring music by Erskine Hawkins, an American trumpeter and big band leader from Alabama who passed away 25 years ago today.

Great, and very appropriate show Paul! Benny Goodman Orchestra, Live at Carnegie Hall, "Sing, Sing, Sing" is on of my all time faves. The concert version also features one of the best piano solos ever. Gene Krupa: "The whole damn thing is my solo!"
