Swing Is In The Air
Sunday May 13th, 2018 with Bernard Stepien
Algerian Guitarist Anis Benhallak and Czech bassist Frantisek Uhlir

Two exotic Jazz artists today: 1. Algerian guitarist Anis Benhallak is a Berber (non-Arab) guitarist from the mountains of the Aures in Algeria. Thus, his roots are truly African rather than middle-eastern. Berber music features cyclical music like further south in Africa. However he also got involved in other Arab influences from Urban areas of Algeria that feature Rai music, Malouf or even Rock music. As a Jazz guitarist his influences are mostly from Path Metheny or Jimmy Hendrix. Thus the name of the project: Paradoxical Project. 2. Czech bassist Frantisek Uhlir comes from a prestigious lineage of Czech bass players that include George Mraz and Misoslav Vitous. He has been working with a number of American and European musicians like Phil Woods, Richie Cole, Ted Curson, Philip Catherine, Michel Hauser and many others on the world scene. His styles ranges from straight ahead to Free Jazz like bassist Charles Mingus…
