On Sept. 29th 2015 the jazz world lost a legend. His career spanned nearly 65 years. He was recognized as a gifted bop performer, arranger and composer. He was voted top alto sax player nearly 30 times in the annual Downbeat Reader's Poll. He was the recipient of 4 Grammy Awards. In 2007 he received a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master award. As Phil Woods himself said: "Jazz will never perish, it's forever music, and I'd like to think that my music is somewhere in there and will last..." Today we honour the legacy of Phil Woods.
