Welcome to my fill-in this Sunday. Playing some old and new favourites, many of which have not been heard on This Island Earth before. In the second hour, we will have a plunge into deep darkness before emerging in blazing light for the third hour. We will start more innocently however, in Senegal and Mali. Follow along for this delicious and intense musical journey.

| The descent into darkness is with Anna Thorvaldsdottir's "Ubique", a 45 minute suite commissioned by flautist Claire Chase. It is composed for piano, two cellos, and flute/bass flute/contrabass flute with electronics. This work was recorded in a single take and has some of the deepest bass I've heard. Thorvaldsdottir describes it as "inspired by the notion of being everywhere at the same time, an enveloping omnipresence, while simultaneously focusing on details within the density of each particle, echoed in various forms of fragmentation and interruption and in the sustain of certain elements of a sound beyond their natural resonance - throughout the piece, sounds are both reduced to their smallest particles and their atmospheric presence expanded towards the infinite."

You will be the first to know that I have a new sidekick by the name of Dancer or Dance for short if I have to call out to him down the road. Also a black Labrador Retriever 11 weeks old and is about 4 times the size that Drake was at 11 weeks.
