Greetings, Earthlings. I'm broadcasting live from the studio today in our pan-galactic fortress of solitude. As always, questions, comments and felicitations below, por favor!

Oooh from the Fortress of Solitude (™ DC Comics, you miscreant!) Ooooh #2, DEAD AIR! ;-s)

1:33 PM, February 12th, 2023
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Okay, I maybe borrowed that from the man of steel, I admit. And yeah, sorry for the dreaded dead air. I'm having a great time in here, but I'm a little discombobulated today. Arrived later than usual and I'm still trying to get my groove back!

Rob Bitschofsky (host)
And speaking of discombobulated: This what you're hearing right now at 1:43 is The Firemen, not Jaffa Road. Messed up again!

Dead air is dreaded by disc jockeys (radio hosts) and other associated radio people. For listening humans however, it's a reminder that this stuff is not computer-programmed. It makes us like it more, even if there may be a touch of laughing at the d.j. (Same with a mistake by an artist onstage: makes them all the more relatable, loveable.)

Human-programmed radio beats genre streaming by a whole lot.

Also, The Firemen features Youth, not Flood. Both 62-year-old monosyllabic British record producers, so you know, I got a little confused there. Seems to be the theme of my day.

1:51 PM, February 12th, 2023
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Completely agree, Benoît! Nothing like the human touch, although mine is particularly clumsy today.

And the dread of dead air is indeed real. When I started here, the world-famous Alnoor Allidina warned me I might get dead-air nightmares, and indeed I do. Each one is different, but in them all I'm trying to do the show but stuff breaks or obstacles keep me from getting the music on the air. I wake up in the proverbial cold sweat. Horrible.

"clumsy" shows to you, alone.

Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Whew! Glad to hear that!

So dead air is, in matters nightmarish, the dj's "finding yourself naked in public with no obvious escape"... Funny how even the subconscious mind will be similarly afraid of Big Goofs, and will go there!

Edit of last sentence: Funny how even the subconscious mind (let alone the conscious one) will be similarly afraid of various Big Goofs, and will go there in dreams!

Mine sure does!

Hi Rob Just tuned in. I like this very dreamy music that’s playing now.

Hey Shelley Ann! Welcome, welcome. That was the Midival Pundits' new one. Kinda nice. Lots more to come for you and Clarice today.

Shelley and Clarice
This afternoon’s music……the dreamy bits are nice. The rowdy bits might send the cats hiding under the couch. It’s all good—that’s what I love about This Island Earth.

Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Glad you're enjoying, SAM. Poor Clarice, though!

She’s fine—she’s aback out having a lovely sun bath on the living room floor. Oh to be a cat!

My cat Oswald is likewise a fan of the sunbeams. But lately he's taken to a strange obsession with shadows and reflections. It's a little worrisome. Little Ozzy!
