Alnoor Allidina presents a bunch of music he planned for other shows but didn't get a chance to play. We will feature Ahmed Abdul-Malik in the first hour and the rest of the show will be a mix of African, American, and Middle-Eastern grooves.
Ahmed Abdul-Malik (1927-1993) was a jazz bassist, teacher, and oud player of Sudanese descent. He also has the distinction of being one of the first jazz musicians to fuse jazz with North African and Middle-Eastern sounds. The records we will hear in this hour were recorded between 1958-1962, and feature the likes of: Al Harewood, Johnny Griffin, Curtis Fuller, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, and Andrew Cyrille among others. |
