This Heatbox Earth

It's hot. This is my annual edition of the heatwave episode, in which we travel the world in search of the hypnotic desert music that sounds like the current heatbox feels. Lots of droney, trancey stuff with flavors of North Africa, Indonesia, China, Ethiopia, the South Pacific and more. Plenty of Pharoah Sanders, Bill Laswell (sometimes together!), David Parsons and others.

Music to swelter to? Or, to chill in a bathtub full of ice cubes? Thanks for the Laswell

Hi Rob, Really enjoying the music this afternoon. Hooray for hot weather! I know not everyone is a fan, and you do have to take precautions for sure. But after the winter/spring we endured, it's about time!

More Laswell to come, peebee, and he produced, also, the Pharoah Sanders tracks that I've played so far.

Shubham: our superterranean world headquarters is only open for visitors during our regular office hours. On evenings and weekends like right now, it's locked down like Fort Knox.

Hey Ross! Nope, Gigi. She's an Ethiopian singer, married to bassist/producer Bill Laswell. The song was called Ethiopia, from the Bill Laswell & Sacred System album Book Of Exit. She's terrific. I have another one by her coming up toward the end of the show, if there's time.
