Throat singing RULES! ;^)

1:13 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Well, this lady sure does rule, PB. I cannot get enough of this record.

1:14 PM, February 7th, 2016
PeterB
We will convert you yet. Yeah, extremely cool recording!

Ooo that soul sok sega is a great record. Great if you need to get the blood following.

1:17 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Yep, got the super-groovy title track from that coming up.

1:19 PM, February 7th, 2016
Enbee
Flowing. Ideally, your blood should be following you already.

1:19 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Right. Mine comes with me everywhere.

1:20 PM, February 7th, 2016
David Dalle (host)
The new Baaba Maal was great. I am always nervous with new albums from great Senegalese singers so happy about that :)

1:52 PM, February 7th, 2016
David Dalle (host)
Oh and isn't it Socan week? :P

1:53 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
It is, David, so I am writing down all the stupid times I play everything, which is far more annoying than it ought to be.

1:55 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
I agree with you about the Baaba Maal. Sounds just great, and I wasn't at all sure it would.

1:55 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Up later special just for you, DD, a very very long Abdullah Ibrahim cut inspired by your comment the other day that we should play more long pieces. Plus I got a longish Fela cut too.

Shelley Ann Morris
Hi Rob, Listening in this afternoon. So great how T.I.E. and CKCU introduce us to music that you just don't hear in other places.

1:58 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Welcome, Shelly Ann! Nice to have you riding along, as always.

Great show so far, RobB! Have fun with SOCAN! :-) Don't got get to note the songwriter/composer for each track as well as the times.

2:03 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Thanks M-Pan. And yeah, I'm writing everything down. Boring! Any of you guys know who composed The Evening Primrose and Paris of the East? They're both covers by the Shanghai Restoration Project of 30s-40s Shanghai cabaret tunes, but my google-fu has thus far failed me in finding out who wrote 'em.

2:06 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Well, I found Paris of the East. Still looking for The Evening Primrose...

2:12 PM, February 7th, 2016
Enbee
Write down Rob Bitschofsky. See if you get a cheque.

2:13 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Plus I'm playin' it twice! Two versions, so I'll get paid twice!

Hi All, Any chance you might do one of those shows where you did a bit of a panel discussion about the world music you liked and shared some of your favourite world music? I think you did such a show approx. 2 years ago. It was so interesting!

2:27 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Sure, that was one of our group shows. Less of a panel than the bunch of us sitting around, taking turns playing records. We haven't done that for a while, but maybe we'll pull one together this year.

Diggin' the heck out this Abdullah Ibrahim / Hajj piece!! Not familiar with this recording, so a happy surprise indeed. Will need to go find it now ... thanks for ruining my financial plan Rob... ;^)

2:46 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Yeah, it's terrific. I didn't know this album either. Just came across it recently.

2:50 PM, February 7th, 2016
S.A.M.
Yes, it was like a formal panel discussion--more like you all talking about tunage. I thought it was so interesting to hear you all sharing the music you like. Looking forward to another show like that..

2:55 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
I'll tell the fellows that the demand is out there for us to do another one!

2:56 PM, February 7th, 2016
Sonia
Hi Rob. As usual, one of the best ways to be educated about music around the world. Thanks to CKCU-TIE.

3:04 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Hi there Sonia! It's a pleasure to have you listening today. More cool world Jazz coming up from Alice Coltrane!

3:05 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Boy, Joe Henderson is just KILLING it here with the amazing sounds.

3:09 PM, February 7th, 2016
Sonia
Wow!That was something. Very interesting sound and rhythm from 'Los Zheros'. The entire show has been terrific.

3:31 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Right? Pretty amazing stuff all around today. Thansk, Sonia! Now on with some Chinese stuff to usher in the Year of the Fire Monkey!

3:33 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
...and when I say Thansk, I mean "Thanks".

3:34 PM, February 7th, 2016
PeterB
You are ON FIRE today Rob! Only thing that &%#@es me off is I have to try to live up to it next week... Off to Africa then.

3:35 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Yeah, it's a pretty sweet set today, if I do say so m'self. I'm digging the heck out of all this stuff today. You better start prepping for next sunday!

3:37 PM, February 7th, 2016
Sonia
You are welcome, Rob. And by the way I needed that soothing chinese music (after all that electrifying energy from the previous set)haha.

3:39 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Yeah, the soothing was nice. However, things are about to get wild once again.

3:41 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
uh-huh. There you go. Wailing!

3:43 PM, February 7th, 2016
Sonia
My Goodness! this music is so sweet. I find it similar to the Latin genre Bolero (Cuban & Mexican) some of the best known.

3:52 PM, February 7th, 2016
Rob Bitschofsky (host)
Yeah, it's got some of that in there. Beautiful sounds!
