This Island Earth
Sunday November 30th, 2014 with Rob Bitschofsky
It's my anniversary on This Island Earth

It's my anniversary here at the station! As in past years, I'll celebrate with an indulgent three hours of my favorite music. Yep, It's all about ME today. And the world music gods have smiled upon me with a brand-new release (like five days old only! New-new!) of Terry Riley's In C played by Damon Albern's Africa Express and featuring Brian Eno among the singers. Jeepers; it's like Christmas came early. We'll hear the whole glorious 40 minutes or so, along with an extended Kip Hanrahan set, some Philip Glass, Abdullah Ibrahim, Don Pullen's African-Brazilian connection and a couple of tracks from the new Congotronics release. Nice!

I know! It sounds electronic, but it's mostly organic Malian instruments and human voices.

JUST WOW!! Thanks for playing In C "Mali remix" in its entirety. Not that there is any logical stopping point really. I'm very happily exhausted now. Time for a nap.... ;^)

Oh, yeah, glad you dug it. I knew as soon as I heard of it this morning that I'd have to play the whole thing. Had to clear out 40 minutes of other cool stuff I was gonna play, but that's for next time...

Might want to also check out: http://www.thespace.org/artwork/view/incmali Looks to be a video of performance. Caveat: I did not actually fully try it out myself yet -- just a quick glance. Tripped over it poking about. Hate to interrupt other music in progress..
