The Wavelength
Monday January 13th, 2025 with Joe Reilly
Monday... Monday... Dreaming of Monday - a fair bit of 80s music tonight

We open in a 1980s vibe - with music from the 80s and some contemporary artists who seem to be influenced by that period like Ruby Haunt and Nation of Language. A couple of great underrated groups get a couple of spins here - Flash and the Pan and New Musik. We also play a couple of songs by Ottawa-based electronic artist Sam Aleums. He just released a stellar new album Reality Machine and he will be celebrating the release with a gig on Friday night at Lounge 164, at 164 Laurier Avenue West. Here is where you can get information and tickets: https://www.ottawagigs.ca/gig/reality-machine-release-ottawa Sam will be my guest on the Guest List this Thursday at 5 p.m. here on CKCU-FM. You can hear an extended version of that interview and more music from Sam if you check out the On Demand version of the Guest List using this link: https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/107/68589.html Thanks for listening and support independent music in any way that you can!!

Hey Joe, speaking of Enola Gay, did you know that the uranium for the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan came from the NWT? Men from the village of Deline mined the uranium with their hands and transported the uranium in burlap sacks. Almost all of the men died within 5-10 years. The other side of horrific losses.

Hey Robin. Thanks for listening and checking in. I found an interesting BBC story that says that while some of the uranium came from Canada, the bulk of it came from the Congo. Check out the story here: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200803-the-forgotten-mine-that-built-the-atomic-bomb

Check out the doc, "Village of Widows". Peterborough filmmaker Peter Blow in 1999 to produce Village of the Widows, a one-hour documentary study of how the Sahtu Dene people have been affected by the mining and transport of the uranium ore used in the atomic bomb.
