We celebrated... or marked anyway Canada Day and July 4th - a look at the states of the nations in song..... It's not about beautiful landscapes folks.
Canada Day and American Independence Day were both marked last week.... in unusual fashion here in Canada without the usual fanfare and fireworks. In the USA some communities and organizations followed questionable practices around July 4 celebrations but what does one expect with Trump leading our neighbours to the south?
Rather than celebrate Canada Day and Independence Day, the songs tonight question our two nations - question the leaders and the citizens of both nations notably on how marginalized communities made up of Indigenous and Black people are treated. It does all wrap up on a (kinda) hopeful note. Great songs and musical pieces here tonight and hope they prompt some thinking.
