Friday Special Blend
Friday April 20th, 2018 with Chris White, Allen Roulston, Barb Gray, Lucas Campoli
Annie Patterson, Peter Blood, Tony Turner, Wesley Petite
In the first hour: "The Power of Song", with guests Annie Patterson, Peter Blood, Wesley Petite and Tony Turner in the studio. Annie Patterson and Peter Blood worked with Pete Seeger to create two highly successful sing-along songooks, entitled "Rise Up Singing" and "Rise Again". They're in Ottawa from Massachusetts to perform in a concert with Tony Turner and Ian Robb tomorrow evening (Saturday) at 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Congregation building, 30 Cleary Avenue -- tickets at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/rise-up-singing-voices-together-tickets-43909931788. Singer-songwriter Tony Turner is known for his songs of protest such as "Harperman" and his songs of hope such as "Circle of Song". Wesley Petite is a Carleton University Ph.D. candidate who is interested in political economy, political science, food security, social justice... and the power of group singing to fuel social change.
HOUR 2: Espoir Manirambona will join us to discuss Aliens or Politicians... which might be one and the same thing. Later Lynn & Ole will join us to discuss their involvement with First Nations initiatives to address Radio Active Waste in Canada. Music selections for HOUR 2 will be largely by Sills & Smith, however we do expect Ole Hendrickson to bring a guitar with him and play live music.
Here's a lovely video of Tony Turner performing his song "Circle of Song" at the 2017 Ottawa Grassroots Festival (filmed by Chad Kirvan, fiddle by Anna Ludlow, produced by Chris White): https://youtu.be/oieFBPTg-B8 |
