Volume, Contrast, Brilliance
Saturday February 15th, 2025 with Steve Kirkland
snow it goes... and goes... and goes...

February is Black History Month.
Tonight's show commences with Side 2 of It's Nation Time, an album-long suite of intense poetry, spiritual/free jazz and polyrhythms. On last week's show I announced I would be playing it in its entirety. I had to limit it to Side 1 due to time constraints -- the duration of the recording listed on the record label is incorrectly cited as 19:43 per side. The album in fact runs for 53+ minutes.
Words and voice by Imamu Amiri Baraka, backed by, among others, Idris Muhammad (dms), Lonnie Smith (pno), Gary Bartz (sx), Reggie Workman (bs).
Details of the full complement of backing musicians and vocalists on the respective tracks can be viewed on Discogs:

Mr. JC, it would appear that the SW6 collective of which you comment are simply reverting to form. Meh. I'm fine Thanks, you too I hope.

Hi Wally! Never had the pleasure myself, but driving along Rideau Street sometime in the past decade I'm guessing I did see Joey Shithead and one of his bandmates coming out of Vertigo Records when D.O.A. were in town for a show.

I think we saw them in the early 80’s but they have come here several times if I remember correctly
