Never heard of Sloche before but enjoying this. Music discovery is always fun.

Wally, Sloche were a mid-70s two-album prog-rock band from Québec.

Love the juxtaposition of the trumpet (Willy Waldman) with Satriani's guitar noodling on Cortez the Killer.

I don't love the crackle on the "new" Jaimie Branch LP. Built-in hazard with new releases, I find... this one isn't even on coloured vinyl, often the culprit.

Wally, you triggered me to look it up. The history of Sloche is interesting, and I'm putting it here, mostly because it seems they were MUCH noticed -- in Québec. (The English version is a little "translationny". http://progquebec.com/sloche.html

"But Steve, he said in a voice dripping with snark, isn't that part of the *charm* of vinyl?" (I still buy CDs, when they exist. I think 33-1/3 rippems are soooo romantic...)

Never heard this live "25" before. Chicago!

Some cool artwork on thos Sloshe albums. And I still buy CD'S also as I listen to a lot of music in the car and my old car still has a CD player

Incidentally, Sloche did begin in Québec City -- to wit the name of the song (and of their 2nd album) Stadaconé, the name of the Iroquois village that stood where the City now is, when Jacques Cartier came in.

Benoît going back to your comment on the charm of noisy vinyl, I agree in the case of well-played, repeatedly listened-to records with crackles that have that "warmth -- like this Roy Young LP... but when I pay 30 to 40 bucks for a new record I expect it to be in pristine condition. Too often with new LPs (especially coloured vinyl) there is surface noise on first listen. Bah to that.

Steve: yeah, understood. I'm just amused by the second vinylisation of records.
