was walking and listening through the honking told them to honk for new energy instead irony of freedom in ignorance there yet beautiful misplaced ifreedom though utterly misconstrued by all hope first, then maybe a step towards freedom from tyranny of ignorance

Wally
I will simply listen but might comment also if I have something to say and a thanks to you Steve for the usual abd unusual Saturday evening music

6:20 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
mike, may we all be free of -- and from -- the tyranny of ignorance

6:22 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
Wally, you're welcome... one listener's unusual is another's usual... both make for a great mix

Mr. JC (if you're tuned in) message me re your plans for the AFCON Final tomorrow

The Bodines song took me back to when they supported New Order in Ottawa at the Congress Center and in my opinion they put on a much better show

6:35 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
Can't remember if I saw that show or whether it happened before I moved here, Wally

6:42 PM, February 5th, 2022

freedom is only a word derived from our idea of , to be our own god we need ideas, ever so eh, how about president gas by (artificial) furs always an escape for everythings best there be always

6:44 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
m p there is plenty in (y)our present circumstances to escape from, and radio can soundtrack that particular freedom

The last track before the hour (c. 6:57PM EDT live/57:00 On Demand), after the Suicide cover, is the HIGH PLACES

You wouldn't happen to have a Peace Tower Carillon cover version of Neil Young's Heart of Gold?

7:05 PM, February 5th, 2022
Louisa
This Iggy Pop Cover is reminding me of an EP from 2011 The Dum Dum Girls - He Gets Me High.

7:08 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
Louisa, no, unfortunately, not for this episode anyway. But Thanks for asking/suggesting, will keep that in mind.

7:08 PM, February 5th, 2022
Benoît
Louisa: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Louis Louis: such a dirty, dirty song. It was contended when i was a kid. Never proven. I think it was demonstrated at some point that the lyrics (in the original version) were basically unintelligible.

B
He's dead, she's alive is listed twice, but Louis Louis isn't there.

7:13 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
Interesting, Benoît. The song is soooooo primal it doesn't need to have a verbal message, grunts or words, either would make it work

7:16 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
B, Editor-in-Chief, I thank you (again).

7:16 PM, February 5th, 2022

Ah, McArthur('s) Park! Long listed as one of the most hated songs EVER, probably because it was so popular, so long-winded, and so...

7:33 PM, February 5th, 2022
B
I mean, who leaves a cake out in the rain?

7:33 PM, February 5th, 2022
Wally
What a brilliant idea to blend McArthur Park with Echo Beach 👏👌👍

7:37 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
B, I never heard MacArthur Park in my youth, so neither hated nor loved it when I did, but cool that it was recorded by Richard Harris, who I first discovered as an actor, in A Man Called Horse

7:38 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
Wally, yes, very creative.

7:39 PM, February 5th, 2022

There is an excellent skit on SCTV where Richard Harris is doing the song but it goes on forever and every time they think it's going to end it starts up again

7:40 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
Kudos to Dean Wareham for tackling George McRae

George McCrae You Can Have it All has been in heavy rotation for me this winter - so enjoying this Luna cover George is the best.

I quite like this version of Rock You Baby 👏👏👌

The Crumb cover is quite rare and although it was originally done for a radio session, it was lost and never released and sadly the main guy Derrick Dalton passed away in 2008 so it was difficult to get permission to include it on our sampler till I was able to locate and contact his widow in Ireland to get permission. So glad it's finally available for people to hear.

7:47 PM, February 5th, 2022
Steve Kirkland (host)
When did Crumb record that Wally?

7:57 PM, February 5th, 2022
Wally
Around 2005 but I'm not 100% certain of exact date
