Volume, Contrast, Brilliance

'twas the night after the night before

Merry Christmas. If that's not your bag, Happy Holidays. At the very least, peace, warmth, comfort and health. For the past 21 months, there has been no live-in-the-studio CKCU broadcasts, sadly. Recent local, regional, provincial, federal and global developments further threaten a return to live radio, but you can still rely on CKCU to deliver the goods. Lockout from the studio means home recording. Home recording, for me and most at CKCU, means total reliance on technology and music in purely digital form. Bah. I miss spinning vinyl. My programs over this stretch have been heavy on the 2000s, especially new releases and the 2010s. Ensures I play new releases but means I ignore or omit a LOT of music on vinyl that I would otherwise be playing on the radio. All this to say, tonight's program provides respite from this preponderence. I'm not playing any vinyl. But I'm not playing a lot of 2000s music. None, in fact. Further in fact, all of tonight's playlist is music recorded between (and including) 1967 and 1989. Love it... or love it.

I think a lot of us are feeling the shock and awe of the pandemic right now... along with what's becoming the usual climate mayhem. We live in interesting times, like it or lump it. Anyway, Merry Crimbo !
