Good evening Mr Steve. Loverly sky tonight. Here for the evening, apart from a little hoovering. I'll send little s'thing later, and won't forget.

6:08 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Hey, Mr. JC, glad you're aboard... forget me not... I like that

6:13 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Thanks Heavy Ben, (alternating) host of Heavy Friends, that comes on after this show, and Chance Meetings, alternating Thursday afternoons 3-4 PM. Appreciate your support... nd your great radio. Cheers

6:15 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Oliver, Hannah -- Many Thanks for your support! Always refreshing to hear from listeners of a more recent vintage coolly into various musical vintages. Cheers!

6:20 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Robyn Hutcheson, CKCU alumnus (Radio Free Opeongo) and longtime supporter of this radio station, Thanks so much for your pledge. Cheers

What a great way to spend an otherwise dark and chilly Saturday night. Listen to this great music and enjoy a MASH-style foot spa.

6:26 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Robin, sorry for the misspelling...

6:27 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Not sure what a MASH-style foot spa is Steffi, but trust it is sufficiently decadent and delicious to be complemented well by Volume, Contrast, Brilliance

6:29 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
A MASH-style foot spa is the kind of foot spa that various cast-members would give themselves in episodes when they weren't occupied in the emergency room. Basically hot water, epsom salts that they took from the supply room, and some sort of soap. And of course, they'd always be enjoying a gin martini in the process. Except, I'm enjoying a Beau's Lug Tread.

6:37 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Keep those cards and letters, I mean pledges, coming... making a decent dent in things here in week 2, looking for more pledges. Are you part of the solution? Let us know. Cheers

6:39 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Steffi, I'd probably enjoy soaking my feet in Beau's Lug Tread... in no way dissing its value as a great local beer...

6:40 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
That's a Volume Contrast Brilliance-style foot spa. Beau's, and epsoms!

6:49 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
So far, $675 in pledges to date, would like to aim for $1000 by the end of this program. With your additional support, we can do it. Why wait? Patience is too often overrated.

6:50 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
Last night confirms why I don't go to live music shows anymore. I don't want a crazed-man to shoot me up with opiods.

6:51 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Whoa, Steffi, what's up with that?

6:53 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
That's what they're saying caused the crowd to stampede at that rap show in Texas. It's in the news.

6:56 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Too much in the news these days about assholes in bars dosing women. Hopefully the message is getting out there and will effect change.

6:59 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
They're describing the individual as running around and poking people with an opioid-filled needle. They had to revive at least one person with Narcan.

7:02 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Big Thanks to John Marshall, another CKCU alumnus, (the original Two Johnnies) for your kind and generous contribution to the cause. Legacy-boosting, to be sure...

7:04 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Mr. JC, Thank-you for your contribution... you're a BIG help, trust me!

7:09 PM, November 6th, 2021

For the new generation, this Astrofest incident will have the same effect as Altamont and The Who in Cincinnati did for past generations.

7:10 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Hi Ian Jeans, guest host on Renny's Riot, Wednesdays 1:30-3:30 PM, and longtime friend and CKCU listener/supporter! Thank-you Sir!

7:14 PM, November 6th, 2021
Wally
I didn't know that the first song you ever played on air was the Virgin Prunes, they played here on Elgin Street, many moons ago in what I think now is Yuk Yuks

7:15 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Hi Wally. Once Yuk Yuks, once The Penguin, and before that, The Roxy, no? I saw that Virgin Prunes show and lots of other great gigs...

7:17 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
Wally, was it at the Penguin on Elgin?

7:17 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Defo downstairs on Elgin...

7:19 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Still lots of time left this how to make your pledge and have me acknowledge your generosity in the Comments here... anyone in need of an ego boost?

7:22 PM, November 6th, 2021
Wally
Yes I think it was The Roxy but my memory is fading these days. My brother has pictures of many of the shows that played The Roxy, like The Fall, Richard Strange, Mission Of Burma, Love Tractor and more

7:22 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Sure I saw The Fall, not so sure about the others you mentioned, but clearly remamber seeing The Monochrome Set (source of this program's name) when they had keyboardist Carrie in their lineup...

7:24 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Heading into the final half-hour of the show and waiting for another pledge to carry us forward that little bit closer to our $160K goal... no need to leave it late, the clock's running

7:29 PM, November 6th, 2021
Dave JC
Any ETA on playing live Steve in the Studio? Though over the past 18 months or so, you have become so good on the recording, but nothing like a live Steve, so to speak.

7:33 PM, November 6th, 2021
Wally
Hey Steve & Steffi - I still have some of the posters from the shows and started digitizing some of them a while back but never got finished - here is a link to bunch of them including The Fall & Richard Strange - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7sqzc7d21kdhlwf/AAC4-hc_eZs0MUBLONhFB7bEa?dl=0

This is the part of the show where I like to give my feet a vigorous scraping with a pumice stone.

7:33 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Dave, hoping at the latest to be back in the studio by January... but waiting for the powers that be to open those doors, so to speak

7:35 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steffi in Lowertown
Steve, you'll just have to go and break-down the door to the place. Power to the people.

7:37 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Wally Thanks for the link... noticing a few other shows I remember that I saw (as opposed to actually remembering much of it)... The Embarrassment!!

7:40 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Steffi, as hungry as I am to get back in the studio, I'm too pacifistic to kick over any statues, so to speak... besides, my technological shortcomings would leave me alone behind the board without the nous to get everything in working order

7:42 PM, November 6th, 2021
Wally
I have a few more, maybe 100 or 200 and one day I will get them all scanned and maybe put together a picture book on all the great shows in Ottawa in the 80's 😂

7:44 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Wally, I hereby endorse your efforts in that regard... go for it... alternately, you could emboss t-shirts with the posters!

7:47 PM, November 6th, 2021
Wally
I like the t-shirt idea as well, you just never know. I had also hoped to one day release a compilation album of a bunch of the bands who played here, although the logistics of getting all the approvals may take a bit of work

7:50 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Heading into the last 10 minutes of this, the second of three Funding Drive shows... we did well this week... Yes, we hit the aforementioned $1000 goal tonight, but we cannot rest... the challenge remains and the overall total ($43K+) is still somewhat lagging... come on, pipe in now with a pledge!

7:52 PM, November 6th, 2021
Mr. A
Steve! Just wanted to say hello on my day off! I am cooking dinner with my Dad and I am just tuning in, lots of whimsical guitar tonight! I donated on Thursday! Keeping the spirit alive!

7:53 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Coming up... wait for it... another Amyl & The Sniffers cut to take us out on a high... rev up, rev up... step up and pledge

7:56 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Mr. A, Glad to hear you donated! Thanks! Hope your Dad enjoyed the show -- and dinner -- with you!

7:58 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Thank-you everyone who listened in, chimed in with comments, and/or pledged. Your interaction goes a long way to keeping this gig a lot of fun for me. More listening, more pledging... next week, the third and final Funding Drive Volume, Contrast, Brilliance will probably be a selection of some of my favourite music... need to respect my roots as it were... make sure you listen in, and if you haven't yet pledged, why? Just make sure you do! Cheers

8:02 PM, November 6th, 2021
Mr. A
Thank you for the quality programming! We are just about to start the feast for the 2 of us.

8:03 PM, November 6th, 2021
Dave JC.
Thanks Steve. Good to hear another Amyl & The Sniffers.

8:08 PM, November 6th, 2021
Steve Kirkland (host)
Cheers Mr. A, Mr. JC...
