Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart died 17 December 2010 at 69. Although he stopped recording music in the early 1980's -- to focus on his painting -- he left an indelible mark on music over the course of more than a dozen studio LPs. More than 50 compilation albums and countless artists influenced by his unique sonic vision attest to the importance of his legacy. There's a short but interesting BBC video documentary out there on YouTube somewhere which is worth checking out for more insight into the mystique...
