Lemmy remembered... and other musical selections

Happy New Year. Doing away with the tradition of revisiting the past year's new releases in the first weeks of the new year. Leaves more room for vintage music... plenty of time for 2016's new releases to make their way into the mix as we move forward...

SKYRAY - Womb - 1999, Space Age
Starting the New Year off with a timely nod to the iconic Lemmy -- Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister -- who passed away December 28th, four days after his 70th birthday and reportedly only a couple of days after being given a cancer diagnosis. Lots of great music, photos, video and info out there, online or otherwise, for further entertainment and enlightenment re his musical and other exploits. For this set, two live Hawkwind tracks recorded in 1972 (one if not both from the sessions that produced the live double LP Space Ritual) and first released on a 1976 UK compilation. Followed by two tracks with Robert Calvert, the late Hawkwind/Hawklords vocalist -- a track from one of his two mid-70s concept LPs and a single released in Europe. Then three cover versions by Motörhead, one of them a collaboration with Girlschool, the other two from sessions for the debut Motörhead LP, only one of which made it onto the album. Finally, Lemmy as part of a trio playing and paying homage to their heroes.
