Playing excerpt of a talk held on Nov 17 in Ottawa, on the Chengdu Agreement - Hiệp ước Thành Đô, where in 1990, Vietnam secretly agreed to become a part of China by 2020 (in Vietnamese).
Speaker: prof. Lê Đình Thông. The talk was organized by the Ottawa Community and the Vietnamese Canadian Federation. The speaker talked about the Chengdu or Thành Đô secret agreement where major concessions were made by Vietnam to China in exchange for Chinese protection. This was in 1990 when there was the collapse of the Soviet bloc, and Vietnam's communist government needed to ally more strongly with communist China to remain in power, hence the secret Thanh Do agreement. What the speaker did was to describe the evidence of such an agreement, which is to take full effect next year, in 2020.
