Marcus Mosiah Garvey: The man and his legacy: The program segment will examine Garvey’s political, racial, religious and economic ideologies. Greater emphasis will be placed on his contributions to Pan Africanism and its legacy. Garvey has influenced the emerging independence movements in Africa and the Caribbean, his formation of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), the Black Starline Steamship Company, The African Communities League, and other subsidiaries of the UNIA. The program will also explore Garvey’s contributions to the emergence of the Rastafarian Movement, the Black Power Movement and the Nation of Islam. |
