During the early 1970's 'Le Cabaret" was Hull, Quebec's largest disco. Situated above an unprofitable movie theatre on St. Joseph Boulevard in the former Our Lady of the Annunciation church, "Le Cabaret" served as a bar featuring exotic dancers during the day, only to become a disco in the nights. In the same building was the offices and studio of CFVO-TV, an early francophone UHF station that would eventually go out of business in 1977. CFVO-TV became infamous for their "Cinérotique" programming on Friday Nights. There were televisions airing CFVO-TV in "Le Cabaret" and patrons could watch pornographic movies while dancing. Even the walls of the disco had silhouettes of nude women dancing (probably for the exotic performances in the day). The atmosphere was extremely suggestive. In 1976, the disco would be renovated and then reopened as "La Disco Viva" which would become one of the most popular discos in eastern Canada for a time. It was even named in Playboy magazine's top ten discos in North America. Here are some of the songs we heard at "Le Cabaret" in 1974, 1975 and 1976:

Hi. Yes, i remember taking the bus from way out in Hull to the Chateau Laurier and going to see the movie Car Wash. Fun music in those times. Later on, i would go to the discos.

I would also like to add i appreciate ypu playing africain and latin music, and not Just the standard souffre. Respect! Just like Mike Regenstref is the caretaker of folk, you are the caretaker of funk!!!

I will never forget the Lou reed song “take a walk on the Wild side “ ending another great night at the cabaret. Was Kind of depressing knowing another night was over and lights would come on at start of trumpet near end of song. Best disco and best of times. Thanks for bringing back great memories.
