Flaco Jiminez, born March 11, 1939 died July 31, 2025 left us a joyous legacy of Tex-Mex music that included the best of Conjunto sounds. He collaborated with the Texas Tornados, Los Super Seven and Ry Cooder as well as the Rolling Stones. I have also sprinkled some other tracks elsewhere in today's playlist as a short 4 track set hardly does justice to his mucical legacy.

The Poncello Records Story continues the musical legacy of Ted Jarrett whose songwriting and production work was central to Champion, Kit, Tennessee, Republic and Cherokee labels and financially backed by the Bubis cousins (Allen and Reynolds). In 1960 Ted struck out on his own and created the Poncello label attracting some of the talent he had worked with on earlier labels in the 1950's. He also founded the short-lived Valdot label in 1962. Ted got a financial boost in 1965 when the Rolling Stones covered his song "You Can Make It If You Try". He then created the Spar label but it was also short-lived. The Tracks below all come from the Poncello label which was wrapped up along with Spar in 1967.

Neil & Drake
Drake actually had favourite music...styles and particular songs. He would lift his head and look at me with a smile when they came on (CKCU is always on in the house). You are hitting a number of those faves this morning ie. Latin, Mexican, "SleepWalk" (huge to us both), Meriden Brothers, Jane Bunnett, Ray Bonneville. So thank you again, Gord, and the entire Saturday Morning Team for all of the memories and the many, many smiles on the faces of Drake and Dad every Saturday Morning !!
