The Champion Records Story Part 3: The Singles
Alan Bubis and his cousin Reynold Bubis had a number of short-lived labels in Nashville (Tennessee and Republic) before they hooked up with Ted Jarrett, road manager, songwriter, producer and forged a long productive relationship the spawned the Cherokee and Kit labels that ultimately were collected under the Champion label. They did not have the distribution to push national hits and most records were sold at gigs. Songs that did were well were often licensed to Vee Jay and other labels to give them a bigger push.
