Western swing was born in Texas but expanded throughout the west from as far north as Minnesota to California. It has its roots in minstrel show music but its recorded history starts with Bob Wills, Milton Brown, Derwood Brown and Sleepy Johnson who, in 1932 recorded as the Fort Worth Doughboys. When Bob Wills and the Browns left to start their own bands, Sleepy Johnson attracted other musicians and a new sponsor to become the Light Crust Doughboys and the rest is history.

Thanks for the soothing music, Gord. Took Drake for a walk this morning to discover a deer ate 27 sweet red pepper plants, trampled 2 rows of freshly planted gourmet carrot seeds, then trampled my 3 rows of tomato plants before departing through 2 more plots. Don't be a gardener unless you do it for the journey!
