The usual mix of music beginning with reggae including a couple of tracks, on the new, acoustic-based, riddim out of Jamaica: Evolution. Up next will be the blues, soul and gospel set which will likely have a jazz lead-in. Gospel side will include Silver Quintette and the Bright Light Quartet. The third hour begins with a call from Amanda Rheaume (and see the highlight below), who will talk about the 5th Annual Babes 4 Breasts concert (October 27 at St. Brigid’s Centre for the Arts), which will raise money for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation’s Maplesoft Centre music program. Also in the 3rd hour: Son Volt, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, Le Vent du Nord, Fraid Knot and the fabulous Canadiana Cowboy Music of Tim Hus and the Rocky Mountain Two.

'Cruelty' is sent out to the Harper Government. While the lyrics of 'Cruelty' are specific to Jamaica, its theme is universal: it speaks of the cynicism of government. In a word that is the Harper Government. Ottawa Citizen columnist Dan Gardiner expressed it more clearly than I can here in his column of September 25, 2011: A crime debate without facts or arguments (he concludes in reference to Harper's 'Law and Order' agenda, which is about primitive retribution and not about crime and punishment and rehabilitation, that 'this government is cynical, contemptuous, and intellectually bankrupt.' I agree and it time to fight back and make sure that they govern for all Canadians. |
