Here we go again! Each year as October comes to a close and the early days of November appear, so too does CKCU-FM's Annual Funding Drive. Indeed, as it has each year since 1978.
The Saturday Morning program, which is hosted by a collective of Pat Moore, Bruce Walton, Alan Surmachynski and myself, features an incredible range and depth of music from the very new to the very old that includes reggae, blues, soul jazz, gospel, latin, cajun, celtic, country, folk, old-time, bluegrass, world and more and it all mixes and mingles with a healthy staple of local music.
It is volunteer radio that is natural and free and that is passionate and honest, and it is by this very nature that its transmission of the sounds of the city and the world that so clearly demonstrates its need when you compare it to the monotone drone of commercial radio.
It will be the usual mix of music on Saturday as we begin our journey in the Caribbean and travel up through the southern United States, maybe stop in for some church, and then up through the heartlands of America and Canada to finally drift east to land here in Ottawa.
